Sony has appointed Jamie Wong as the company’s first Community Manager who will expand Sony’s presence in the social media space.

Wong, who began his career with Sony ten years ago and has held roles across customer service, sales and product marketing and will now also be responsible to expand Sony Australia’s advocate group – Sony X.

“Often referred to within the company as “Mr Sony”, Jamie’s passion for the Sony brand and products is infectious,” Sony Australia’s brand, community and PR manager Kelly Ehrlich said.

“He was our first choice for this new role, with an ability to set the tone for Sony across multiple social media platforms and to create real connections with Sony fans. Having recently hit the 100,000 fan milestone on Facebook, we’re already seeing the brand advocacy effects of delivering unique, engaging activities in this growing area of marketing.”

Sony established its customer advocate group – Sony X – in October 2010 and has given members the opportunity to trial Sony products, experience money-can’t-buy brand and product opportunities in Australia and overseas, and express their opinions to help shape the future of Sony.

“Not only are Sony’s products being used every day by Australians to access social media platforms but they’re using these platforms to talk about Sony. My aim is to help Sony create best-in-class social media campaigns, profiles and activities, not only here in Australia but working with Sony companies around the world to bring global opportunities to life,” Wong said of his appointment.

“I’m particularly excited by the potential of our Sony X group.”

Building on the success of Sony X, Sony is opening up applications to join the group once again where members will receive exclusive benefits, offers, competitions and more.

“I have experienced firsthand just how passionate this team is about Sony and our products, and I really love the idea that we’re going to offer more Australians the chance to take part in this unique project. Giving them the best of the whole Sony group – electronics, mobile, movies, music and games – we can really bring to life the Sony promise of imagination made real,” Wong added.
